Baseless allegations should not demoralise officials, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He said this while inaugurating the Greenfield international stadium at Kariavattom on Monday.
The shortcomings in connection with the organising of the National Games would be addressed, he said.
The stadium, which would be handed over to the University of Kerala after 15 years, was completed in 740 days. It was the first such stadium to be constructed in a private-public partnership mode, he said.
The 37-acre stadium, completed at a cost of Rs.161 crore, could accommodate around a lakh spectators. It was among the rare stadia in the world, after the one at Melbourne, which could host both cricket and football matches, sources said.
Inauguration
Mr. Chandy would inaugurate the renovated Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in the city, complete with a synthetic track and floodlights, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The stadium, renovated after 30 years, was under the supervision of the Kerala Police Sports and Youth Welfare Society.
The stadium, which had six tracks earlier, will now have eight synthetic tracks. The renovation was done by the National Games authorities with help from engineers from Malaysia. Athletics teams for the games are expected to use the stadium and its ground for warm-up sessions.
A football match between the Kerala police and SBT teams will be held on Wednesday as part of the inauguration.
