Chennithala offers support to daughters of Roopesh

July 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The recent anonymous letters purportedly from Maoists claiming to be active in the State are part of a false campaign that is trying to hide the fact that the Maoist movement in the State is nearing its end, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.

In an open letter to Ami and Savera, daughters of alleged Maoist operatives Roopesh and Shaina, posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, Mr. Chennithala offered all support for them in the difficult phase they were going through.

“There will be many around you to glorify the path trodden by your parents and to try to lead you through the same. You should never choose the path of violence, which has never helped anyone reach anywhere. I understand the current situation that you are going through. You are not responsible for the wrong paths chosen by your parents. You can approach me with your problems,” said Mr. Chennithala in the letter.

He said Maoist activity in Kerala had ceased after the arrest of Roopesh, Shaina and those involved in the attack on the Nitta Gelatin company and the KFC outlet. “Not only has there been any report of Maoist activity, but the sympathisers have also gone silent,” he said.
