The State government, if needed, will frame a legislation to clear the hitches in identifying land and distributing it among the landless, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Inaugurating the Revenue Day observance here on Tuesday, Mr. Chandy said steps should be taken to sort out the pending issues between Revenue and Forest Departments in identifying land and distributing it among the landless. The government would give wholehearted support to the efforts of the Revenue Department on this count. If needed, the government was willing to pilot a legislation and also secure the Centre’s clearance. Staff strength too would be increased to meet such needs, he said. The government had received 2.43 lakh applications for land under the Landless Free Kerala project.
