Continuing their fight to protect the Government Central High School at Attakulangara, the school protection council and non-governmental organization, Tree Walk, on Monday staged a protest march towards the State Assembly here. Poet Sugathakumari, inaugurating the march from Palayam. She said the heritage of the school, the oxygen bank of the city, should be conserved and that its lost glory restored.
Academician R.V.G. Menon, addressing the march, said poor town planning, short-sighted development and inadequate traffic management system were behind the rising number of accidents in the East Fort area. Rights of pedestrians should be protected with subways and walkways, along with flyovers without disturbing heritage structures, he said.
Veteran journalist B.R.P. Bhaskar, representatives of various political parties, and organizations, including the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, the Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation, the Kerala Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, Kerala Sarvodaya Mandalam, Sakhi, SEWA Union, and others participated in the march.
