Minister inaugurates review meet of Arogya Jagratha

Regular and intensive preventive action can help prevent communicable diseases, Minister for Tourism Kadakampally Surendran said.

He was inaugurating a review meeting of Arogya Jagratha campaign, being organised across the State for the prevention and control of infectious diseases, here on Friday.

Mr. Surendran suggested that all panchayats in the district fully utilise the funds being provided for preventive health measures, with the cooperation of health workers.

The capital district should emerge as a model for the entire State by taking an active lead in organising preventive health measures to keep infectious diseases at bay, he said..

Each ward is being given ₹25,000 from the National Health Mission, Suchitwa Mission and LSG for ward-level health and sanitation activities for the year. Panchayats may use its own funds if this amount proves to be insufficient for the planned activities, Mr. Surendran said.

District panchayat president V.K. Madhu presided over the meeting.

The presidents, secretaries , chairmen of health standing committees of various grama panchayats, municipalities and Corporation, and the district medical officer participated in the meeting.

The meeting also reviewed the cleaning and sanitation activities organised so far in the district. District Collector K. Vasuki directed that “dry day” be observed every Sunday and that the reports be presented at the Collectorate by the secretaries.

District panchayat vice president Shylaja Begum, Corporation officials, district medical officer, district programme manager, NHM and the district planning manager were present at the meeting.
