According to the police, the victim has been identified as Jayachandran Nair, 36, of Venjaramoodu.
A guard of the Venjaramoodu Service Cooperative Bank, Jayachandran was attacked during the wee hours of the day.
In a pool of blood
He was found lying in a pool of blood inside the bank premises by the employees when they arrived for work by around 8.30 a.m.
Sensing something was amiss on seeing the shutter locked from inside, Ramakrishna Pillai, the bank’s secretary alerted the workers of a nearby commercial outlet. His attempts at contacting Jayachandran came to a naught as the latter’s phone was switched off.
It was later found that the bank’s roof sheet had been broken and it was through the opening that Mr. Pillai and some others made their way to the building, only to find an unconscious Jayachandran.
While some of the doors were found to have been opened forcibly, no valuables were found to have been stolen during preliminary assessment, the police said.
Jayachandran, who suffered head injuries, was initially rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital and later referred to a private hospital in the city.
