As in the previous year, boys have swept the first 10 ranks in the Kerala Entrance Examination, 2017 for engineering admissions in the State.
The rank list for admission to engineering courses and pharmacy degree courses in government pharmacy colleges for 2017 was released by Higher Education Secretary Usha Titus here on Tuesday.
The first rank has been won by N. Shafil Maheen of Puthiyara, Kozhikode. Shafil had earlier secured the eighth rank in the all-India JEE (Advanced) exam for admission to various engineering colleges, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs).
The second rank went to Vedant Prakash Shenoy of Kottayam and the third rank to Abhilash Kar of Vadavathur, Kottayam. The top two ranks in the Scheduled Caste category went to C. Indrajith of Malappuram and Aswin Viswanath of Wayanad.
The top two ranks in the Scheduled Tribe category went to Gibin George of Kottayam and P. Aswin of Kasaragod. A total of 90,806 candidates appeared for the engineering entrance exam this year, out of which 72,440 have been declared qualified. As many as 61,716 students, including 32,036 boys and 29,680 girls, have been included in the rank list. Among the first 5,000 ranks in the engineering rank list, 2,535 are from the State higher secondary stream, 2,280 from the CBSE stream, 140 from the ICSE and 45 from other streams.
A total of 54,604 seats are available for engineering courses in the State in 159 colleges, including nine government colleges, 115 private self financing colleges, and other aided/government self-financing and university-regulated institutions.
In the first phase of allotment, which will be held on June 30, admissions will be open for 33,000 seats. The option registration for engineering courses will begin on June 22.
Pharmacy ranks
In the Pharmacy entrance examination, the first rank went to C.P. Alif Anshil of Malappuram, the second rank to Sudip Maji of Kottayam and the third rank to Naquash Nazar of Kozhikode.
