Bharatiya Janata Party district president S. Suresh has demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of RSS worker Rajesh.

Mr. Suresh told reporters here on Friday that the police had been trying to protect the accused in the case from the beginning.

The release of the accused on bail on the fifth day of the death was testimony to this, he said.

The SC Atrocities Act and conspiracy angles were added to the case following the intervention of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes that visited the capital.

‘Intimidation’

Had the police included these provisions, the accused would not have secured bail, he said.

Four days before the death of Rajesh, a group of people had intimidated his brother and BJP area general secretary Rajiv.

‘Atmosphere of terror’

The police were trying to suppress such issues.

They had not considered the attempts made to create an atmosphere of terror in the locale after the death of Rajesh.

He accused the CPI(M) of trying to save the first accused in the case, Manikuttan.

Even 12 days after the death of Rajesh, on August 9, no inquiry officer had met his family or recorded their statement.

The officers met them only after the issue was taken up with the commission and the State Police Chief, he said.

CBI probe sought

The party did not have faith in the police inquiry. The members wanted the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the case.
