‘BJP, CPI(M) sabotaging murder case probe’

May 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday alleged that the Central government was sitting on the State government’s plea for a CBI probe into the conspiracy angle in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case as part of the secret deal between the CPI(M) and the BJP.

In a statement here, Mr. Chandy said if the TP Murder case was handed over to the CBI, the CPI(M)’s top leaders would be put in the docks, cutting at the root of that party.

The BJP, which saw the Congress as its arch enemy, was not interested in weakening the CPI(M). The BJP and the CPI(M) were working together in the Assembly elections.

He said the State government had recommended a CBI takeover of the case some time back on the basis of the Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan’s letter seeking a CBI probe in February 2014 around the time when TP’s widow, K K Rema, staged a hunger stir in front of the Secretariat.

Later, Mr. Achuthanandan changed his stand, but had failed to explain what caused him to do so.
