Air Vice-Marshal K.P. Nair, Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration of the Southern Air Command, has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for his distinguished service and achievements.
A native of Palakkad, Air Vice-Marshal Nair was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on 28 December, 1977. He has held the post of Chief Operations Officer at a premier air force base and has commanded various fighter squadrons.
He graduated from the prestigious Defence Services Staff College with instructor grading and functioned as senior instructor, a press note issued here said.
During his tenure as Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station, Pune, he was adjudged ‘Best in Administration' and was presented the awards ‘Best in Maintenance' and ‘Pride of the Command.'
He actively participated in various operations, flying different types of fighter aircraft such as Mig-21, Mig-23, Mig-29 and Su-30, and has more than 2,500 hours of accident-free flying time, the press note said.
