The Vizhinjam police have registered a case against seven Congress workers who allegedly manhandled the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC)’s Assistant Transport Officer at the Vizhinjam depot here on Saturday.

According to the police, the Congress workers were from Uchakada, Vizhinjam, and nearby areas and had reached the depot around 10.45 a.m. to demand more services through their areas. This gradually turned into a protest.

It turned violent when the ATO, Mohan Kumar, 55, was manhandled by the protestors, three of whom were identified as Jayakumar, Suresh, and Mujeeb Rehman. The other four accused are identifiable persons, the police said.

The police also registered a case against 75 identifiable KSRTC employees who later staged a road blockade in protest against the manhandling of the ATO.

The Congress took out a protest march later in the day, the police said.
