For those wishing to pick up knick-knacks to adorn their showcases or buy that interesting gift for a dear one, there could be no better place to walk into these days than the handicrafts exhibition currently on at the VJT Hall in the city.

Organised by Kerala State Handicrafts Apex Cooperative Society Limited, the exhibition features a variety of utility objects such as homemade pots and vessels, a collection of bamboo curtains, and jewellery.

The pots and vessels have an ethnic touch about them, while the bamboo curtains offer an interesting option for those keen on giving an off-beat touch to their living spaces. Among the various artistic handcrafts are mural paintings, mostly of women dressed in traditional Kerala attire.

There is also an interesting collection of wood-carved images of Kaliyaattam and Theyyam and highly ornate elephant figurines.

Adding novelty to the expo are ‘Etikoppaka Toys,’ which are popular for the eco-friendly material used to make them.

They are non-toxic and free from chemicals, and are coloured using vegetable dyes. The exhibition has been attracting a large number of visitors, indicating that novelty tugs at the hearts of many when it comes to making their shopping choices.
