August 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Bunking classes without the knowledge of parents will be a thing of the past for students of Poovachal Vocational and Higher Secondary School.

A computer application Parents Alert SMS System (PASS) has been designed to alert parents if students fail to turn up. Designed by a school teacher Syed Shiyas, the application sends an SMS to parents’ phones if students do not reach school.

Every day after attendance is taken, the class teachers will submit a list of the absentees, and all parents will get the message through one click.

The application, which functions under the supervision of VHSE Computer Science and Information Technology teacher and Principal Seema Xavier, also sends a greeting on students’ birthdays.

The software was launched by K. Sabarinadhan, MLA. Education Minister C. Raveendranath, and district panchayat president V.K. Madhu were present on the occasion.
