Antony sees clear majority for UDF

BJP will not open account in Kerala, he says

May 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony has said that the UDF will come back to power with a clear majority in the forthcoming Assembly election.

Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on the last day of the election campaign on Saturday, he said the UDF would better its position while the LDF would lose several of its sitting seats.

He asserted that the BJP would not open its account in the Kerala Assembly despite the aggressive campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers and the huge money spend on the campaign. There was no Modi effect in the Kerala, he said.

“If the BJP has lost its early advantage, it is thanks to Mr. Modi and his speech in Thiruvananthapuram in which he drew a parallel between the situation in Kerala and that in Somalia. It was a comment that hurt Malayali pride. The party will pay for Mr. Modi’s mistake,” he said.

Mr. Antony said the main electoral fight in Kerala was between the UDF and LDF except in the Manjeswaram and Kasaragod constituencies.
