The second day of the 18th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) witnessed the screening of 47 films in 11 categories. The laurels on the day were shared by Israeli filmmaker Adi Adwan’s Arabani , Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s Meghe Dhaka Tara , Argentinian Ivan Vescovo’s Errata, and Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Sniffer .
Another notable screening of the day was Siddharth Siva’s Malayalam film 101 Chodyangal . The film moves along two parallel tracks, one in which Sivanandan (Murugan) loses his job at a sugar mill and the other chronicling his son Anil’s days at school.
The new teacher at the school, Mukundan (Indrajith), asks Anil to frame 101 questions by looking around him to form the material for his next book. The boy’s explorations slowly shift to include his inner world as poverty gnaws at him.
Hilarious takeIn the Indian Cinema Now section, Nalan Kumarasamy’s Tamil film Soodhu Kavvum on a kidnapping plan gone horribly wrong, evoked quite a lot of laughter at the Sree Padmanabha theatre. In the same section, Kannada film Lucia , which has been garnering quite a lot of acclaim abroad, impressed the audience. The French-Portugal production 3X3D , a triptych by Jean Luc Godard, Peter Greenaway, and Edgar Peral, got mixed reviews.
On Sunday, one of the most awaited films is the Brazilian film Jonathas’ Forest by Sergio Andrade, which looks at a weekend camping in the forest of the protagonist and his newfound friends. The film is a part of the competition section. Harun Farocki’s Videograms of a Revolution is another work of interest. Those who missed Arabani and Meghe Dhaka Tara on Saturday due to the heavy rush can catch the repeat show. In the Malayalam Cinema section, K.R. Manoj’s Kanyaka Talkies and Rajeev Ravi’s Annayum Rasoolum are the notable ones to be screened on Sunday.
