Man held on rape charge

The Pothencode police on Friday arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly raping his 21-year-old relative. The accused has been identified as Bipindas from Koonthalloor. He was taken into custody when he landed at the airport here from Bengaluru, where he works in the software field, for his wedding scheduled on January 9.

According to the police, the accused and the victim were in a romantic relationship. However, after his marriage was fixed, the woman travelled to Bengaluru to confront him over it. The accused then blackmailed and raped her. The woman’s parents had lodged a missing complaint after she went to Bengaluru. A medical examination conducted by the police on her returning revealed that she was raped.
