Expert team should probe Jishnu’s death: BJP

January 12, 2017 09:04 am | Updated 09:05 am IST - Thrissur:

BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan has sought investigation by an expert team into the death of Jishnu Pranoy.

The mystery behind the death should be found out. The allegations that the student was caught copying during examinations are not trustworthy, he said.

ABVP demand

Special Correspondent writes from Kozhikode: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded that the police arrest those involved in the abetment of suicide of Jishnu.

At a news conference in Kozhikode on Wednesday, State secretary V. Shyam Raj demanded that the government constitute a high-level commission to look into the functioning of self- financing private professional colleges in the State. “The alleged torture of a student by teachers and management cannot be confined to an incident at the Nehru college. Students are subjected to torture in the name of internal assessment, ” he said.

KSU blames government

The Kerala Students Union (KSU) has accused the government of being hand in glove with self-financing college managements over the death of Jishnu.

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, KSU president V.S. Joy alleged that the police had not registered a case against the accused, including the management authorities in connection with the case.

Action demanded

“The Crime Branch probe being initiated now is only a farce to shield the culprits involved in the incident. No disciplinary action has been taken against the teacher and the management so far. Self-financing colleges are a law unto themselves without following government regulations, ” Mr. Joy alleged.

He alleged that several managements employed gangs of senior students to torture freshers so that they discontinued studies, consequently benefiting the managements who could admit new students to vacant seats after collecting huge capitation fee.
