A report has been submitted to District Medical Officer P.P. Preetha on 58 students — 29 boys and 29 girls — at GV Raja Sports School at Mylam, near here, falling ill on Monday night.

Dr. Preetha said as per information received, of the 283 students in the school hostel, 58 students who had consumed rice, chapattis, and beef curry for dinner had complained of pain, diarrhoea, and vomiting. They were taken to Government Hospital, Peroorkada, and were released after examination. Two students, however, had been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, a statement here said.

Their condition was stable.

Licence suspended

Food Safety Assistant Commissioner A.K. Mini said the licence for the hostel kitchen had been suspended under the Food Safety Act.

No problems had been detected by the Food Safety team that went to the school on Tuesday. Teachers there had not been reported sick. However, such instances were reported from the school in 2014, 2016, and 2017, and though the school had complied with notices issued, the reason for the recurrence needed to be investigated. Water samples had been collected from the kitchen for conducting tests, she said.
