A ₹27.18-crore package to provide kerosene for fishermen in Vizhinjam who will be affected during the construction of the breakwater for the Vizhinjam International Multipurpose Deepwater Seaport was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday.

Boats will be provided kerosene through Matsyafed during the estimated two-year period of construction.

The 2,353 boats — registered at Vizhinjam and hailing from Vizhinjam South, Vizhinjam North, and Adimalathura fishing villages — will have to take a circuitous route to venture into the sea during the construction of breakwater.

For this, the fishing boats will need additional kerosene.

The package was worked out on the basis of a suggestion of a committee under the Revenue Divisional Officer.
