Vehicle theft: two arrested

The Thiruvananthapuram Rural police have nabbed two youths for their alleged roles in numerous cases of thefts of motorcycles, ornaments and other belongings.

The accused, who were identified as Noufal, 22, of Anchalummoodu in Kollam, and Aashiq, 18, Manamboor in Attingal, were arrested during a joint operation by the Kallambalam police and the shadow police team that has been constituted by Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram rural) K. Shefeen Ahamed at Vedanvila,, near Manamboor, on Wednesday. The youths have been accused of having stolen five motorcycles and two gold necklaces, one weighing two sovereigns and the other one sovereign, in various places including Kollam, Pooyappally, Kazhakuttam, Chirayinkeezhu and Attingal during the past three months. A police official said that the accused persons used to snatch chains of the victims after arriving on motorcycles they had stolen. After arrested for allegedly stealing eight motorcycles from the premises of the Thiruvananthapuram Government MCH, the accused had served a jail term before being freed in February.
