The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department seized nearly 1.1 kg of gold from two passengers at the airport early Sunday.

The passengers had reached the airport here aboard an Air India Express flight from Abu Dhabi.

The passengers were identified as Sulaiman and Suneer. The gold was concealed in a black pouch in their suitcase in the form of belt buckles. The buckles had been silver coated to avoid detection, a Customs official said.

While two buckles and one chain weighing 600 g were seized from one passenger, two more buckles and a smaller chain weighing nearly 500 g were seized from the second passenger. It is learnt that they reached Abu Dhabi from Dubai by road.

The market value of the gold has been estimated at ₹30 lakh.
