A group of persons questioned three youths, hailing from different communities, for sitting together at a hotel in Melkar near Bantwal on Saturday evening.

The Bantwal Town police said that the youths, two girls and a boy, belonging to two different communities and students of a college in Melkar, had come to the newly opened restaurant near their college for refreshments. A group of people came to the hotel and questioned the boy for coming to the hotel along with his female classmates. The two girls were reportedly abused.

Police rushed to the spot after receiving a call from one of the onlookers.

Police officials quickly took control of the situation and took the students away to a nearby place. The youths narrated their story but refused to file complaint against the group.

Later they were safely sent back to their respective rooms, the police said.
