Work in full swing in Udupi

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will distribute saris to 12,998 mothers of beneficiaries of the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium here today.

MLA Raghupati Bhat told presspersons on Tuesday that 149 buses would bring the mothers of the beneficiaries from different parts of the district. There were 2,500 women eligible to get the saris in Udupi. They would be taken to the venue in private buses free of cost.

The MLA said lunch would be arranged at Hebri for those coming from Karkala taluk while women from Byndoor and Kundapur side would be provided lunch at Brahmavar. Those coming from Udupi and Kaup side would have their lunch at Shamili Hall.

The MLA said 12,000 people would be accommodated at the District Stadium. The Chief Minister would symbolically distribute 30 saris at the function.

The remaining saris would be distributed among the beneficiaries in their respective buses. Those unable to attend the function would be given the saris through the anganwadis.

The saris to be distributed had been procured from the Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation (KHDC).

A free medical health check-up camp would be held at the venue.

The cost of organising the function had been estimated at Rs. 30 lakh.

The price of each sari was Rs. 180.
