‘Women are their own enemies’

January 11, 2015 04:00 pm | Updated 04:00 pm IST - MANGALURU:

If the respect of women is to increase in society, mothers’ should be willing to give birth to baby girls, as the first step, said Sampath Pal, Commander of Gulabi Gang and crusader for women’s rights here on Sunday.

Addressing a gathering as a guest at the all India Lioness Conference 2015, she said that mothers are the first enemies for a girl child in India. They rejoice on the birth of a son but dislike the birth of a girl into the family. This sort of discrimination is incorrect. Women are their own enemies. The first step to take a woman’s honour to greater heights is by shunning this attitude. Elder’s in a family also bless a couple to have a male child.

She pointed out that the government did not make the people but people make the government and for betterment of the society, people should work together.

Lioness District 317-D had hosted the conference titled ‘Sitare’ under the International Association of Lions Clubs.
