Areas under the Bikarnakatte flyover were cleaned by volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Abhiyan here on Sunday.
They removed posters from the walls of the pillars of the flyover and the walls were cleaned with water. A group of volunteers removed the dirt and garbage lying around.
Another group cleaned the drains adjoining the highway leading towards Padil. Using grass-cutting machine, weeds were also removed from both sides of the highway.
Dilapidated temporary seats below the flyover were replaced with new seats. Illegal flex banners and hoardings were removed.
It was the 37th ‘shramdhan’ as part of the abhiyan.
A workshop on ‘filth to wealth’ was organised for senior citizens on the occasion.
Nandini Raghuchandra, resource person, demonstrated pot-compost and explained how the kitchen and household waste can be converted into compost.
Swami Ekagamyananda explained the history of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan and its significance. Pots were given away to some persons interested in making compost, a release said.
