The three-day ‘Vishwa Tuluvera Parba – 2014’ earlier planned at Pilikula Nisargadhama from November 28 will be held on the premises of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Technology, Adyar from December 12.
Announcing this at the inauguration of the office of the ‘parba’ at Urwa Stores on Sunday, D. Veerendra Heggade, honorary president of the organising committee of the festival, said the venue had been shifted as the committee felt that it would be more convenient for people to reach Adyar than Pilikula.
In addition, fears had been expressed that a large gathering of people might disturb the greenery at Pilikula. Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy would be organising the festival jointly. Mr. Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala, said the objective of the festival was to remind the young generation of the greatness of Tulu Nadu and its people, and to integrate all people.
He said the people in the undivided Dakshina Kannada were ahead of others in trade and commerce, politics, education, health, art and literature. This festival should emerge as a platform for the overall development of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi by deviating from Mangalore-centric development.
He said the focus of development related to roads, schools and hospitals should spread out of Mangalore to taluks and villages in the two districts.
“Economic activities should spread to taluks as well,” he said. Ivan D’Souza, MLC, said no data was available on how many speak Tulu in the world. The data available pertained to only Karnataka.
B. Ramanath Rai, minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada and president of the organising committee, said there should be a concerted effort by all Tulu-speaking people, organisations and governments to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
The logo of the ‘parba’ made by John Chandran, an art teacher at St. Aloysius High School, Kodialbail, was also released.
