The revised examination manual of Mangalore University will be ready shortly, said Vice-Chancellor T. C. Shivashankara Murthy. He told The Hindu that “the completely revamped” examination manual would be tabled at the next meeting of the Syndicate for approval.

The examination manual, a handbook on university examinations, is being revamped after nearly three decades. The existing manual of 1984 followed the pattern of Mysore University as Mangalore University was carved out of Mysore University in 1980. Prof. Murthy said the university had constituted a committee for revising the old manual.

P.S. Yadapadithaya, Registrar (Evaluation), said the 200-page draft was typed now and would be ready by July end. The university had introduced many academic and examination reforms in recent years and so the manual had to be revised, Prof. Yadapadithaya said.

The university introduced semester scheme, credit-based semester scheme for undergraduate courses, choice-based credit system for post-graduation courses, and challenge evaluation for post-graduation examinations in recent years.

The university had computerised the process of examination — from issuing hall tickets to issuing convocation certificates. The university has computerised the tabulation of marks after the evaluation of answer scripts. The manual would deal with how to conduct the examinations in the changed circumstances. It would answer the five Ws (who, when, where and why) relating to examinations, the Registrar said.

Prof. Yadapadithaya said the manual would describe the duties of Chief Superintendent, deputy chiefs, invigilators, evaluators of answer scripts, and so on. He said the manual would describe how the seating arrangements should be in examination halls, such as to which side students should face while writing the examinations.
