Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy’s two documentaries on artistes belonging to Siddi and Mandara communities will be ready by month-end, according to Roy Castelino, president of the academy.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday he said that Siddi community came under Scheduled Tribe and Mandara under Scheduled Caste. Each documentary was of 20 minutes.
In addition, he said the academy was making a documentary on 41 Konkani speaking communities. It would take about two years to complete.
Along with it, a coffee table book of 250 pages having introduction and photographs on those 41 communities would be published.
He said that the State government has agreed to release Rs. two crore to Mangalore University to establish a study chair in Konkani. It is expected to reserve the fund in the Government’s 2015-16 Budget. Once the chair was established different courses in Konkani would be offered through the university.
