The police have arrested two persons for an alleged derogatory post against Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava on a social networking site. The police gave the names of the arrested persons as Ashwath Kumar, an interior designer, and Yatish, an employee of a finance company.

The police said that the residents association in Angaragundi had planned to hold Tipu Jayanti on Thursday. The association had invited the former Bajrang Dal convenor Mahendra Kumar to the function. Harris, an office-bearer of the association, had reportedly shared details of the event on his Facebook account four days ago.

'Notorious legislator'

The police said that Ashwath Kumar and Yatish, on Thursday, criticised on Facebook the association for the holding the programme and inviting Mahendra Kumar to the function. Kumar and Yatish went on to call Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava a “notorious” legislator and accused him of having links with a terrorist organisation.

On a complaint by Harris, the Panambur police arrested Kumar and Yatish. The two were produced before the local magistrate who remanded them to judicial custody.
