T.R. Suresh took charge as Commissioner of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate here on Monday.
It was on June 12 last year that Mr. Suresh took charge as Police Commissioner replacing M. Chandra Sekhar.
After directions from the Election Commission, the State government transferred Mr. Suresh to the Fire and Emergency Services Department in Bengaluru and posted Vipul Kumar, who was Director of Karnataka Police Academy (KPA), to Mangaluru in April. A few days ago, the government transferred Mr. Suresh to Mangaluru, while sending Mr. Kumar back to his earlier posting.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, Mr. Suresh said that he will continue with the programmes, including the phone-in, carried out during his earlier tenure. The raids on illegal stocks of sand, which were carried out under the supervision of Mr. Kumar, will also go on, he said..
Meanwhile, Mr. Kumar told reporters that he was among the officers being transferred by the State government as per the directions of the Election Commission. “As every one (police officers) was going back, I am also going back (to Karnataka Police Academy) as per the general order,” he said, dismissing reports that his transfer was because of the action against illegal stocking of sand. The action of the city police in seizing illegally stocked sand in the last few days has been widely appreciated, he said.
Lauding the law abiding nature of citizens here, Mr. Kumar said that it was unfortunate that a negative image was being projected outside. “People here are educated and the region is known for its educational institutions. The orders issued by me in my capacity as Executive Magistrate has been well received,” he said.
