Home Guard Rekha did not just restrict herself to regulating traffic on the busy Karavali Circle. On Sunday, she with the help of Babunna, an autorickshaw driver and a local resident, filled up craters hindering traffic on the busy road between Kankanady and Bendorwell Junction.

Rekha was posted at Karavali Circle a few days ago. She has been doing her duty along with the traffic police constables at the circle. Autorickshaw driver Babunna has been assisting traffic police in regulating traffic during peak hours at this junction.

Following heavy rains, craters sufaced between Karavali Circle and Bendoorwell Junction that had slowed down traffic movement. The Mangaluru city police had written to the Mangaluru City Corporation to repair this stretch and other 32 stretches.

As no action was taken, Rekha and Babunna decided to fill up the craters on the particular stretch on their own on Sunday. They brought pieces of asphalt (tar and jelly mix) from SCS Hospital Road stretch. The hospital road has been dug up now as it is being upgraded into a concrete road. Pradeep, a resident, joined Rekha and Babunna in the task.

Following circulation of images of the work done by these three on the social media, the Mangaluru traffic police called them to the Mangaluru traffic east police station and felicitated them.
