Temples directed to clear Hundis in two weeks

Good revenue earning temples in the district have been asked to clear Hundis once every 15 days and not every month as being done at present. They have also been asked to install motion sensors in addition to burglar alarm.

These were among the directions issued at a meeting held to review security at the temples in the district. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim and Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D.

Representatives from the Anantapadmanabha Temple in Polali and Soutadka Gananapati Temple near Uppinangady said they were clearing the money deposited in the Hundis once every month. The representative from Somanateshwara Temple in Someshwar said they have been clearing Hundi’s once every two months.

Motion sensors

Mr. Sharanappa asked temple authorities to consider installing motion sensors at specific areas in the temple which will be in addition to burglar alarms.

Such sensors are important in light of thieves entering into temples from various points other than doors. Motion sensor was among the requirements specified in the proceedings held recently to review security arrangements in the Kukke Subramanya Temple, he said.

Mr. Sharappa was also pointed to the need to have higher capacity hard discs for storing closed circuit camera images.

These images are not only helpful for security reasons but study inflow of devotees and plan appropriate arrangements during peak hours of visit to temples.

Representative of Mangaladevi Temple in Mangaluru and the Durgaparameshwari Temple in Kateel sought additional policemen on Fridays for regulation of traffic that will be at its peak and hamper vehicular movement. Mr. Ibrahim said similar problem was seen at the temple in Narahari Betta near B.C. Road junction.

Mr. Ibrahim directed Endowment Department authorities to get the report from Mangaluru Police Commissionerate on the security arrangements necessary for prominent temples in the city.

The report should be prepared by an officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, he said.
