Nearly 900 members of the Udupi district unit of the Karnataka State High School Assistant Masters' Association boycotted the evaluation of SSLC answer scripts here on Thursday.
President of the association Bhaskar Shetty told presspersons here that the State unit had urged the district unit members to boycott the evaluation since the State Government was yet to meet their demands.
Demand
The Government should increase the remuneration for evaluation. The evaluation amount should be revised every three years as per the departmental norms. But though four years had passed, no action had been taken in this regard. The discrimination in salaries prevailing since 1996 should be removed. Teachers were losing their seniority whenever they were transferred from one district to another, which was undesirable. The State unit of the association had submitted a list of 19 demands to the Government six months ago.
Although Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, had promised to look into their demands, no action had been taken so far. Terming the protest on Thursday symbolic, he said the evaluation would be resumed from Friday. If the Government did not fulfil their demands, the association would intensify the agitation later, Mr. Shetty said.
Treasurer of the district unit of the association N.M. Poojary was present.
