It was the turn of the road opposite to the Mangaluru City Corporation in Lalbagh to get a new look on Sunday. A large number of volunteers led by Swami Jitakamanadaji from Ramakrishna Mutt swept the roads, cleaned the bus stops and closed the opening of road side drains.
On the 13{+t}{+h}week of its 40-week long Swachch Mangaluru campaign, good number of volunteers joined the Ramakrishna Mutt in their mission to clean up the Lalbagh Road. This road was chosen as it will be the most frequented ones as it leads to Mangala Stadium that is the venue of the National Senior Athletic Championship, which commences from May 1. Environmentalist and artist Dinesh Holla flagged off the event.
The volunteers started the work by removing the mud and other weeds growing along the road. The volunteers identified as many as 15 places where the drain was open. They arranged to get cement slabs close the openings. This pavement was along the road that leads to the Karavali Maidan, where sportsmen will be practicing for the championship.
A group of volunteers including students of Balikarshrama cleaned the bus stops and gave it a new look by giving a coat of paint.
Employees of Amubuja Cement, members of Monkey Stand Friends Circle and students of Ramakrishna Mission took part in the cleaning exercise done on Sunday.
