A comprehensive survey to check school dropouts will be held in Udupi district on November 6 and 7. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, S.A. Prabhakar Sharma, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, said that the children’s survey would be held in all 1,245 government, aided and private primary and high schools, including those coming under CBSE and ICSE syllabus. The survey would include all children in the age group of six to 16 years.
As many as 654 teams – each comprising four officials, which will include two teachers, a representative from an NGO and an official from one of the government departments – will visit the schools during the survey. As many as 1,308 teachers, 654 representatives of NGOs and 654 officials of other government departments, will be taking part in this initiative. Each team will visit two schools.
The schools in the district had been divided into three categories – vulnerable cluster, non-vulnerable cluster and general.
Survey of families
In addition to children’s survey, a survey of 1,42,708 families in vulnerable and non-vulnerable clusters of the district would be held from November 13 to 17. The survey aims to help track dropouts and persuade them to rejoin schools.
People could also inform the department if the survey had not taken place in their places or if there were dropouts around, by calling telephone number 0820-2575383, Mr. Sharma said.
