Surprise check yields prohibiteditems in jail

The Mangaluru City Police on Saturday conducted a surprise search operation at the District Jail and stumbled upon several prohibited articles, including cannabis, cellphones, and SIM cards.

In a communiqué here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya said that a team of 20 officers and 30 personnel, including women staff, conducted the surprise search in the afternoon.

About 250 grams of cannabis, beedi and cigarettes, match boxes, cutters, mobile phones and SIM cards were seized during the search, he said.

A case was registered with the jurisdictional Barke police, Mr. Hanumantharaya said.
