April 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:08 pm IST - MANGALURU:

People from different communities should come together to fight against untouchability and inequality that still prevails in society, said District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai on Thursday.

He was speaking at a function organised here to mark the 125th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. He said even so many years after Independence, untouchablity and inequality continue in society and have not been completely eradicated. People should speak up against such practices and ensure that all sections of society get justice, the Minister said.

Mr. Rai said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would, on April 21, lay the foundation stone for the Ambedkar Bhavan in Mangaluru (its construction had been stalled because of technical reasons). MLAs J.R. Lobo and Mohiuddin Bawa also spoke on the occasion.

Mr. Rai also presented fishing kits to few fishermen.
