Soon, stations under Konkan Railway will also have escalators as in Bengaluru, Mumbai suburban and major railway stations in the country.

Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has directed Konkan Rail Corporation to install escalators and enhance passenger convenience at stations under it. He was discussing passenger amenities with KRCL Chairman & Managing Director Prakash Tayal, a company statement said on Friday.

The Minister suggested that amenities should be upgraded at all the stations of Konkan Rail – which connects Mangaluru with Mumbai and goes through parts of Karnataka - as the number of passengers has increased. He mentioned the need to widen platforms, provide more benches, clean toilets and extending cover sheds on all platforms – the latter because the region has a heavy and long monsoon period.

The release said Mr. Tayal had assured the Minister that bio-toilets will be provided at all the stations and action would be taken soon for all the amenities.
