Sometimes even the Upalokayukta can’t help

June 09, 2014 11:43 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:08 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Upalokayukta Subash B. Adi disposed about 120 cases in one sitting on Saturday but he also had to hear some that were either out of his jurisdiction or lacked legal backing to proceed further.

One was that of a sportsperson who had a complaint against an association of powerlifters accusing it of harassing her with false doping charge.

Another was that of a woman employee of a cooperative bank who accused the manager of sexual harassment. The two could not get relief as the two organisations did not come under the purview of Lokayukta.

In the case of the sportsperson, the association representative said that the association was covered under the Karnataka Societies Act and was outside the jurisdiction of the Karnataka Lokayukta Act. Justice Adi then directed the District Registrar of Cooperative Societies to enquire if a complaint was filed.

In the case of the lady clerk, she had accused the manager of getting her dismissed from service. Justice Adi said he could not do anything in this matter and asked the woman to file a complaint with the police and also approach the District Registrar of Cooperative Societies.

The Moodbidri police informed that the complaint filed by the woman against the manager had been closed for want of evidence.
