Ship crew member evacuated for medical treatment

The New Mangalore Port authorities on Sunday evacuated a Filipino crew member from a ship sailing from Singapore to Iran as he needed medical treatment urgently.

The member, Julious Clivete, 45, from the ship MT Kriti Sfakia, was shifted to a private hospital at about 5.12 p.m., according to a release from the port trust.

It said that the port received the distress message from the ship at 10.45 a.m. that the crew member has suffered severe abdominal pain in lower right side suspecting appendicitis. The ship would reach the port at 3 p.m.

On arrival, medical evacuation inside the basin was arranged and the patient was evacuated using the port craft. The patient was shifted to the hospital with the help of steamer agent, the release said.
