“You are proud members of a new India, a new world. A world and a future for all the challenges it is facing is one of abundance. Abundance of imagination, abundance of opportunities, abundance of choices, and abundance of creativity,” said Anand Sudarshan, founder and director, Sylvant Advisors, here on Saturday.

He was addressing the graduating students of Manipal University at the 25th Convocation at KMC Greens here.

Mr. Sudarshan said that social media had taken the world by storm. Global powers were getting rearranged quickly. “Yesterday’s heroes of Indian IT industry are being forced to re-invent. Fossil fuel vehicles are beginning to be supplemented (and eventually replaced, perhaps) by electric cars,” he said.

“It is a brave new world — a future for you to bravely shape for yourself, and to thrive and succeed in ways different from our generation,” he said.

Mr. Sudarshan shared five suggestions that he believed would stand them in good stead: Be Curious, Imaginative and Creative; Be Purposeful, True and Courageous; Be Positive and Joyous; Be Committed and Resilient; Be both Passionate and Compassionate. “These will be your companion traits as you shape your future and succeed in it,” he said.

On the first day of three-day convocation, 1,246 of the 3,779 under and post-graduate students received their degrees. Also, 24 of the 82 Ph.D scholars were awarded degrees and the five best outgoing students presented gold medals.

The convocation was declared open by Pro Chancellor H.S. Ballal and Vice-Chancellor H. Vinod Bhat gave an overview of the progress and activity of the university in the last year.
