Sexual assault: 53-year-old man held

A 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 53-year-old neighbour on Thursday.

According to the Vitla police, the girl frequently visited the Rajab’s house to watch television. On Thursday, Rajab was reportedly alone in the house as his family had gone to Puttur.

He called the girl, who was playing outside, inside and then allegedly sexually assaulted her. He also reportedly warned her against revealing the incident. When the girl returned to her house, she complained to her mother about abdominal pains and then reportedly confided in her regarding the assault.

On the basis of a complaint, the Vitla police arrested Rajab for offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The police said that Rajab was reportedly the father of 23 children and had reportedly married four women. The police added that Rajab had reportedly admitted to sexually assaulting the girl. The police said the girl underwent counselling on Friday and her statement was recorded before the local magistrate.

Man accused of assault

A 14-year-old girl has accused an owner of a food joint in Thokkotu Junction of sexual assault.

According to the Ullal police, Bashir reportedly made indecent advances towards the girl on Friday.

On hearing of this incident, the girl’s relatives reportedly thrashed him and a complaint was filed.
