Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said on Saturday that the State government had allocated Rs. 10.9 crore for providing toilet and other basic infrastructure facilities in 594 schools.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Government Pre-University College at Perdoor in Udupi district.

Dr. Acharya said the lack of basic facilities in schools had come to the notice of the authorities during the “Shalegagi Neevu Naavu” programme held on July 5. The government had swung into action to provide facilities to those schools immediately by taking a decision in the recent State cabinet meeting.

He said the State was in the forefront in the country in the educational field. There was no shortage of teachers in government schools. There was one teacher for every 28 students in schools.
