Residents of Kaprigudda in Attavar have submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of the Mangalore City Corporation demanding immediate road repairs in their area.
Speaking to The Hindu on Wednesday, a resident of the area Dionysus D'Sa said the city corporation authorities had neglected the repair of the New Attavar Road and the adjoining Kaprigudda road for several years.
Dinesh Acharya, another resident, said the New Attavar Road was asphalted six months ago but in a week's time it looked like the road had not been repaired at all. Mr. D'Sa said that “fed up” with the state of the two roads in the residential area, he and other residents including Mr. Acharya got signatures of 100 residents on a petition addressed to the Deputy Commissioner and the Commissioner of the city corporation . Although the engineer for the area had been directed to visit the spot, Mr. D'Sa said that no one had turned up. Even the storm water drains were in a poor condition, Mr. D'Sa said. He said that only three-quarters of the Kaprigudda-KMC road had been asphalted , only to please “certain rich people” living in those areas.
Councillor from the Milagres ward, under which the area falls, Suresh Babu, said a portion of the road had been left out as the engineer had made a mistake while preparing the estimate. “However, we have carried out patchwork in the portion that has been left out . I am trying to get the rest of the road repaired, but we (Congress) are in the Opposition now and we are facing trouble,” Mr. Suresh said. Executive Engineer M. Ramesh said that he was not aware of the matter .
