Probe ordered into under-trial’s death

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the death of 43-year-old under-trial Naveen Poojary in Mangalore District Prison on Tuesday.

Poojary had been lodged in the Prison following orders of 3 Judicial Magistrate First Class Court since May 20. Police said he died while being taken from the jail to the Government Wenlock Hospital for treatment. Poojary was under medication for fever for since Sunday.

Prison Superintendent Doddakamiah said the magistrate visited the prison on Wednesday and recorded statements. Mr. Doddakamiah said the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Mr. Doddakamiah said the cause of the death was not established yet.
