‘People looking at CPI(M) as an alternative’

May 03, 2013 11:46 am | Updated 11:46 am IST - Mangalore

After undertaking a door-to-door campaign in the city, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate for Mangalore South, Vasantha Achari, said there was a “good chance” people will choose a CPI(M) candidate this time around.

Mr. Achari told pressperssons on Thrusday that over the past one-and-a-half months, party workers had contacted nearly 1 lakh people. He was particularly satisfied with “corner meetings” held across the city, where the residents discussed issues of the city and Karnataka with the candidate.

“Issues such as checking sexual assault were discussed with the people, and over 65 such meetings were held,” he said.

He claimed that with the Congress and the BJP “failing in their manifestoes”, people were looking at the CPI(M) as an alternative. “They promised to stall price rise, but this has not happened. Now they don’t even consider it as a poll issue ,” said Mr. Achari.
