With the district administration busy for most part of Sunday, because of the visit of the Vice-President and the State Governor, a special drive to clear pending files in government offices in the district fell a bit short of its intended target.

The two-day drive was aiming to dispose of more than 25,000 files out of the nearly 1 lakh files that were pending in various government departments in the district.

However, officials said at the end of the drive, around 23,000 files had been disposed off.

A bulk of the disposed files will involve letters of correspondence or inter-departmental requests.

The Revenue Department, which accounted for nearly one-fifth of the total pending files, struggled to meet the target as matters of land and the sanction of required funds required coordination between numerous departments, said officials.
