Concerned over the increasing instances of communal incidents in the district, members of the Muslim Central Committee urged the public to ensure peaceful passage of Dasara and Bakrid festivals in the first week of next month.

Addressing presspersons, committee president K.S. Mohammad Masood said incidents such as an attack on six Muslim boys allegedly by the Bajrang Dal on September 18, “frequent” attacks on those transporting cattle pointed to an atmosphere of communal tension.

Mr. Masood claimed the incidents had “reduced by half” since the Congress came to power, but said the police machinery still remained complacent to these incidents.

The committee, however, commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statements affirming the patriotism of Indian Muslims.
