The Central Crime Branch on Saturday picked up one of the suspects alleged to have fired at the car of real estate magnet P. Dayananda Pai on Vani Vilas Road, near National College, on October 17.

Vignesh alias Mayya was picked up from Mysore where he was hiding. However, refusing to confirm the arrest, Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said investigations were still on.

Sources said the police were questioning Vignesh to get the whereabouts of the other accused and the plans of the gang led by Hebbet Manja, who is currently operating from Bangkok.

Mr. Pai and his driver escaped unhurt after two shots were fired at his Bentley. While one bullet, aimed at the driver, hit the front windshield, the other pierced the rear windshield missing both men.
