Endosulfan victims and their children will now get home-based palliative care, physiotherapy and special schools apart from social security relief sanctioned by the Finance Department. This has been the long-pending demand of the patients.

Health Minister K.R. Ramesh Kumar, who, on Monday, discussed with officials from the departments of Revenue, Finance and Women and Child Welfare on health improvement and other steps taken for Endosulfan victims, recommended several measures after reviewing the Kerala and Karnataka models of relief programme.

According to a press release, the Department of Medical Education has been entrusted with the responsibility of identifying Endosulfan sufferers under general medicine, psychiatry, orthopaedics, neurology, gynaecology, ophthalmology and other specialities for their treatment.

Two staff nurses will be appointed under the National Health Mission for palliative care of bedridden patients in each panchayat. Besides, a physiotherapist will be appointed.

The Women and Child Welfare Department has been asked to establish permanent rehabilitation centres at Alankaru village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada and Shirali village in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district.
